Looking at Art from the Met

I recently went to the met and saw this:
Questions:
a) This artwork was at the Met.
b) This artwork caught my attention because I feel like this is me after a long day, just relaxing.
c) The artist was Balthus and it was made in 1938. This is a painting of his neighbor.

  1. I SAW THIS ONE TOO! :D
When I saw this, I thought of the same thing as you of how when I get home and Im alone, I just lie there on the couch. I dont even take my jacket off because I'm so tired.

  2. The fact that this piece of artwork was painted in 1938 also has to relate to the time period where the industrial revolution was taking place. After coming home from the factory the women is tired and wants to rest. The fact that her dress is short and her legs are showing also gives off a "I don't care" attitude, it might even be a bit inappropriate at that time.

  4. This seems like a really chill work of art and I really like it because it just defines me as a person. You can really see the laid back attitude and how little she cares about the world at that moment.

  5. The painting itself does seem relaxing, like a stretch at the end of a long day. However, the fact that the artist painted a picture of his neighbor who seems young with her skirt lifted, creeps me out. It now seems like he is a creep. Did he paint this with her consent?
